About MRI

High Definition MRI

Glendale MRI Institute features a new, state-of-the-art high definition magnetic resonance system. It allows us to capture dramatic images of our patients, reminiscent of high definition television.

The Signa Excite 1.5T HDxt system provides highly detailed pictures of anatomy and pathology to help evaluate a wide range of conditions, including stroke, musculoskeletal and heart disease.

It offers outstanding image quality for a more confident diagnosis, and less likelihood of rescans, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Our high definition MR scanner is designed to handle the types of studies that are becoming increasingly important in the diagnosis of disease. We get more diagnostic information while patients experience a shorter, more comfortable exam.

With the Signa Excite scanner, we offer the most comprehensive breadth of MR procedures in the Glendale area, providing optimal diagnostic capabilities for the assessment of the brain, spine, prostate, abdomen and pelvis. We also perform orthopedic procedures on the elbow, wrist, hip and ankle.

In addition, we perform a breast MRI and MRI-guided breast biopsy with this high definition technology.

MRI-Guided Breast Biopsy

A real-time, MRI-guided breast biopsy is the latest development in diagnosing breast cancer. This procedure is usually a preferred alternative to surgical biopsy. It is recommended when an abnormality is seen on a breast MRI and cannot be visualized by ultrasound or a mammogram.

Guided by MR imaging, we insert a vacum-assisted needle into the suspicious area and suction out a small, cylindrical-shaped tissue sample. The procedure requires only a topical anesthetic and leaves little to no scarring.

MRI-guided breast biopsy costs less than a surgical biopsy, can be done in less than an hour, and has virtually no serious complications.

Open MRI

Glendale MRI Institute also features an innovative open MRI system that provides excellent image quality for diagnosis and unsurpassed comfort for patients.

Our new system, the Signa Ovation .35T, is the world’s most open mid-field MRI scanner. The spacious environment makes exams easier for larger patients who typically feel cramped in other systems, as well as people who are claustrophobic or suffer from anxiety in enclosed areas. It is estimated that more than 10 percent of all exams using traditional MRI systems are abandoned due to patient anxiety.

The Signa Ovation has a wider patient opening than other scanners, measuring 41/2 feet from side to side with 16 inches of headroom. Patients can see into the scan room during exams. Plus, family and loved ones can sit close by, which helps lessen anxiety.

The Signa Ovation performs a comprehensive array of exams, including studies of the central nervous system, body, joints, extremities, and cardiac and vascular anatomy. The machine configuration makes it easier to find the field of view for shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and wrists.

Our new open system is the best of both worlds. It offers patients greater comfort, shorter exams and fewer retakes, while providing physicians with a wide range of applications and excellent image quality for diagnosis.
