What is bone densitometry?
Bone densitometry is an advanced technology that safely, accurately and painlessly measures bone density and mineral content in order to determine the risk of developing osteoporosis.

What will the exam determine?
The exam measures your bone mineral density (BMD). It also compares your measurements to a reference population based on your age, weight, gender and ethnic background. Your physician will use this information to diagnose your bone status and fracture risk.

What can you expect?
When you arrive at Glendale MRI Institute, the receptionist will help you with your paperwork and show you where to leave your personal belongings during the exam.

Is the exam safe?
Bone densitometry involves and extremely low dose of radiation. Glendale MRI Insittute proudly user state-of-the-art equipment, which delivers less than one-tenth the radiation dose of a traditional chest x-ray

As in any medical procedure, if you are pregnant be sure to inform your physician and the staff at Glendale MRI Institute prior to your exam.

How do you prepare for your exam?
No special preparation is necessary. However, please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing without metal below the waist.

How long will the exam take?
Your entire exam will take from 10 to 20 minutes.

When will you know the results?
Once your bone densitometry exam is complete, a board-certified radiologist at Glendale MRI Institute will look at and interpret your results. The radiologist will send your doctor a written report within 24 to 48 hours.
